Cast Iron Crazy
This is the first time I have ever bought cast iron cookware. I seasoned it myself before using and have been using it every since. Honestly. I haven’t taken it off the stove. I decided to by the Lodge wok and grill/griddle. I’ve gone cast iron crazy! I have a couple of pieces from my mom, which I just started using. I loved them so much I decided to buy a piece for myself. I really liked that I didn’t have to be concerned about what utensils I used, so now I’m in cookware heaven.

Perfect pan for fried chicken!
I used it the same day I received it. I was craving fried chicken for a long time but didn't have the right pan for it. I have other more shallow cast iron pans that I use frequently but none with depth or a lid. The lid also fits my 10 1/4 inch cast iron fry pan. The way the lid is designed keeps the steam build up from dripping all over the stove when you remove it. It fries chicken perfectly! My husband loved it and I plan on using it often for frying or as a dutch oven.

Cant help but give it 5 stars
I knew when I ordered this it wasnt going to cook as good as my old wagner skillets but I needed something bigger. When I recieved it I was surprised just how rough the cooking surface was and the pre seasoning had a small chip on the rim of the pan. The first thing I did was strip it with oven cleaner. I am sure over time the pan would have smoothed out with use but I decided to get my husband to smooth it out. Not exactly sure what he used to do it but it was as smooth as my wagners when he was done. I seasoned it several times. I did initially have a little trouble getting the seasoning to stick well, may have possibly been too smooth. After two months of cooking in it it has become my favorite skillet and I use it nearly everyday. Wasnt sure about it at first and had my issues with it, but now im not sure how I ever got along in the kitchen without it.

Lodge is superb quality, but watch for price fluctuations.
Background you can skip We started on a journey of replacing the Calphalon / Cephalon / Tefal / and Stainless potts and pans that we accumulated over the years. The reason is that the non-stick stuff, over time, comes off and who knows what it really does to your body long term. The cast iron pan we received of my mother, already 35 yrs old when we received it, was an eye opener as nothing stuck in it and it was glorious to cook in. So we decided to go pan by pan and build up a full "site" of cast iron pots and pans. We've tried various brands, initially, thinking "cast iron is cast iron". WRONG. The smoothness of the surface, quality of the seasoning, fit of the lid, even thickness etc are all critical in making something GREAT cookware versus a horrible failure. Lodge has been a winner in every category of cast iron cookware for us. At this point we have a complete cookware collection and 90% is Lodge and we love it. The trick with cast iron? Read up on directions on how to cook with and hot to properly clean. Too many people ruin the seasoning by not understanding how to care for it. If the seasoning ever gets sub-par or you make a mistake: re-seasoning is very easy with any oven and some cooking oil. Here's the good: - perfect thickness of iron - deep even and eternal seasoning: we have yet to re-season any of the pans after several years of intense use - smooth cast iron surface. The combination of seasoning and smooth surface make for virtually non-stick cooking, be it crepes or sunny side up eggs. Works great! - lid of this item fits precisely - Handle on pot as well as lid: its heavy - can withstand very very high heat, unlike non-stick. Great for over use - Keeps heat very long so dinner doesn't go cold in seconds On the downside (we're nitpicking on the first): - heavy to handle, so not great for older people. You can get a serious wrist workout from handling these - Amazon seems to have a crazy price band for this. Bought mine in the low thirty bucks and today, when writing this review, its 88. Nutty. Watch and time your purchase as it goes up and down and thats just not cool.

Perfect for frying and soups
The lodge 5 quart, 12 inch skillet works so good. I have smaller diameter lodge dutch oven that is great for a dutch oven, but I wanted something with more surface area. I also have a regular lodge 12 inch skillet but it isn't deep enough for frying. This is the perfect missing piece to my collection. It has a 12 inch diameter but is also deep and the lid fits nice and tight. I have tried the much pricier enamel cookware but lodge is a great price and works well. There are no hot spots, the casting of the iron is good with few rough spots. The inside surface is smooth.

Its a perfect size for handling medium size jobs
I have at least 5 other Lodge cast iron pots - dutch owens , skillets and pans in different sizes and have been looking to get this one for a while. It arrived yesterday with 1-day delivery from Amazon. Its a perfect size for handling medium size jobs. Works really well for our family of 3 with occasional guests coming over. Have used this for preparing vegan bean chilli and a few other dry vegetables. Each time the result has been outstanding. As with all cast iron purchases, make sure to season the fryer the first time you get it from the store and then follow up with the usual light weight maintenance - keep it dry, apply a thin coating of oil, etc and the fryer will last for generations!! Oh, forgot to mention, i actually bought this for mom as a thanksgiving gift. She was visiting us and saw my selection of cast iron cookware and was intrigued. She is an avid cook and once she used some of my pots, she wanted one for herself. Think she has just converted to a Lodge cast iron fan

So perfect and versatile!
I have a couple shallow cast iron skillets, but I’ve been wanting a deep one like this for such a long time. I purchased the 3-quart one. It arrived in perfect condition and I’m absolutely in love with it! ❤️ So versatile and with the lid, it’s going to work out perfect for me as both a fryer and a small Dutch oven... As others have stated, even though it’s listed as 10 1/4”, that’s the measurement at the TOP. It tapers down to about 8” on the bottom. So please be aware that your actual cooking surface will be less than the measurement listed... It comes “pre-seasoned”, but make sure you wash it first (preferably with just water), dry it thoroughly (I hand-dry, then place it on a hot burner for a minute or so to sizzle off any excess moisture), let it cool down to where it’s just warm, and then use a paper towel to rub a THIN layer of oil on it (I use olive oil)... Repeat this same procedure after every use, to keep it non-stick and to keep it from rusting, and it should last you a lifetime. I made Baked Ravioli in it, for its “maiden voyage”. Came out PERFECT and it was so nice to be able to use just ONE pan from the stovetop to the oven! Plus you can’t beat cast iron for browning meat. I heated the skillet up, dropped the whole “brick” of ground beef in it and then didn’t touch it for about 5 minutes. I just let it sear, undisturbed, before flipping it over, breaking it up, and then cooking it the rest of way until it was done. It made the house a little bit smoky (lol), but the nice brown sear on some of the meat gave my Baked Ravioli such an added depth of flavor, as opposed to just breaking it up and stirring it around from the beginning. Yummmmm! ๐ Plus I had no trouble with it sticking at all, either the ground beef while I was cooking it OR the Baked Ravioli itself, after it came out of the oven... I can already tell this is going to be my “go to” pan in the future for soooo many different things! ๐ณ๐๐

A beautiful fryer!
This is a beautiful fryer. It is actually 3 litres, somewhat larger than 3 quarts, but as it still has the 10 1/4" diameter top, and about 8" diameter bottom, I suppose it is a bit deeper, which is great. I used to do my frying in a wok. It took everything my Bosch stovetop had to get it up to 350 degrees, and once I put food in, it dropped off, and never would fully recover. Not so with this pan. I do not know why, but the oil easily went to 350. When I put food in, it quickly recovered, and before I knew it was uop to 370. I had to back the burner down. This is an ample fryer for a small household. As someone noted, if you are cooking for a big crowd, the 5 quart may be what you need. Obviously, it also does a lot more than fry. Red beans and rice? Jumbalaya? Hey now. My new best buddy.

Love Cast Iron
I love this cast iron pot for a few reasons. My mom owned a cast Iron pot similar to this one and she cooked many dishes in it. I have 3 different sizes of cast iron pots like this one. The other sizes are similar to skillets. All the food I cook in that cast iron pot taste better and cook evenly. It came to my door packaged very well and it was seasoned already. Most people may not be familiar with seasoning. Follow videos (reference on How to season pot) on You tube and the pot will last forever.

Perfect camping cooker!
I love cooking over a fire when we're camping and this 3 qt size is perfect for the two of us. I am able to cook more in it, but cooking for 2 allows me plenty of room to stir the food. It's really heavy-duty, so you can place it in, over, or near the fire. The lid is nice and snug, so it really keeps in moisture. The lid also has a good size handle, which I can open with a heavy fire glove on. I used to cook our meals in foil, because of the easy clean up. But I got so tired of leaking foil packages, not being able to check on or stir the food, and trying to open that hot foil when the food is done. Now, I can open the lid and check on doneness and stir the ingredients. Plus, there is no leaking and everything is juicier! Cooking time is reduced a bit, too, since the cast iron gets so hot. I think I held off from getting a cast iron pot for so long because I didn't want the hassle of cleaning it. But, in reality, it's been really simple. After I washed it the first time when I received it, I've never used soap on it again. I just wipe out any excess food and give it a good rinse in hot water. Then wipe it dry with a paper towel and add a dab of cooking oil with another paper towel. And it's ready for next time! So, glad I finally got one!!
